Larry is survived by his wife Beatrice, children Regina, Sinead, Lorcan and Barry and grandchildren, Molly and Peter. His remains were reposed at The Manor in Edgeworthstown, on Monday October 1st from 2pm to 6pm, removing to St Columbas Church, Mullinalaghta, Co Longford for 7pm. Larry’s funeral mass took place at the same church at 12pm Tuesday 2nd October, 2012. He was buried with his parents and grandparents in the graveyard nearby. Larry’s eventful life was marked by the many tributes made to him since his passing. The President of Ireland, Micheal D. Higgins paid his respects with a wonderful tribute for radio and the Taosieach’s office sent Commandant Micheal Tracey to represent the Irish Government at Larry’s Funeral.
Larry’s many music business colleagues paid tribute to him on the radio stations, in the newspapers, television and at the funeral itself. Brendan Boyer, Susan McCann, Philamena Begley, Trudie Lawlor, Chuck and June Owens and many more sang at the end of the funeral mass.
Larry was removed from the Church by his sons Barry, Lorcan, nephews Tomas Nannery, Brendan Flood, Micheal Cunningham and his son in law Angus Mackay to the famous distinctive sound of his own voice singing his major hit Lovely Leitrim.
He left to go to his final resting place to a standing ovation, a fitting end to the final chapter of one of Ireland’s true musical pioneers.
